An Evening with Isabelle Camille
Jun 17, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
Join educator and author Isabelle Camille for an intimate conversation about family, identity and cultural complexity as she shares her deeply personal memoir. Drawing from her experience as a Haitian-American mother of a transgender son, Camille offers heartfelt insight into the emotional journey of parenting through change, challenge and ultimately, acceptance.
An Evening with Isabelle Camille takes place on Tuesday, June 17, at Books & Books in Coral Gables. The event is free and open to the public, with copies of her memoir, Sole’s Mom: A Transgender Journey of Love, Loss and Letting Go, available for purchase.
In the book, Camille reflects on her path from raising her daughter Sole to embracing her son Sky, candidly recounting the doubts, fears and growth that shaped her family’s transformation. She explores how cultural background—particularly within Black and Haitian-American communities—can add complexity when navigating gender identity. Through personal stories and hard-earned wisdom, she offers guidance for parents, educators and anyone seeking to better understand what it means to support a loved one through transition.
With more than three decades of experience in science education and a strong commitment to LGBTQ advocacy, Camille brings a multidimensional perspective—blending professional expertise with lived experience. The evening promises a thoughtful exploration of identity, resilience and the enduring strength of family.
