An Evening with James Dougherty and Charles Bohl
Sep 13, 2025
Starting: 6:00 PM
Explore the visual language of urban design during an evening with James Dougherty and Charles Bohl at Books & Books in Coral Gables. The discussion centers on The Art of the New Urbanism, Volume 1: (1980–2010), a landmark publication that compiles over 200 works from more than 100 designers, capturing the evolution of New Urbanist illustration and planning over three decades.
Held in partnership with Dade Heritage Trust, this event takes place on Saturday, September 13 at 6 p.m. Admission is free and books will be available for purchase.
James Dougherty, Principal and Director of Design at Dover, Kohl & Partners, is widely recognized for his contributions to sustainable urban design through hand-drawn and digital visualizations. Charles Bohl, Professor and Director of the Master in Real Estate Development and Urbanism Program at the University of Miami, is a noted author and expert on town centers and mixed-use development. Together, they will discuss how the illustrations in the book have helped communicate place-making principles to both professionals and the public, offering insight into the artistic and civic dimensions of urban planning.
