Join acclaimed translator and poet Michael Hofmann for an evening exploring the intricacies of language and culture at Books & Books on Saturday, October 26. Hofmann will delve into his translation of Jenny Erpenbeck's award-winning novel, "Kairos," a poignant exploration of love, loss and the complexities of East and West Germany. This International Booker Prize-winning novel, masterfully translated by Hofmann, offers a captivating portrait of a divided nation through the lens of a personal love story.
Hofmann has translated over 70 books from German, including works by Franz Kafka, Joseph Roth and Hans Fallada. His talent for capturing the nuances of the original text while crafting elegant English prose has earned him numerous awards, including the Cholmondeley Award and the PEN/Book-of-the-Month Club Translation Prize. Currently a professor at the University of Florida, Hofmann brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his craft.
This event is presented by the Books & Books Literary Foundation in partnership with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Miami.
