Bookmaking Workshop: Stories of Family
Jun 28, 2025 - Jun 29, 2025
From: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Discover how memory and material come together in a hands-on bookmaking workshop focused on family stories and personal history. Bookmaking Workshop: Stories of Family takes place Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29 at the Vizcaya Village Garage, as part of the Binding Histories series led by artists Nicole Combeau and Sean Sullivan.
Participants will experiment with anthotyping, a plant-based photo printing technique that uses botanical materials and sunlight to create images. The resulting prints will be transformed into Japanese-style stab-bound books, with space for optional personal mementos such as fabric swatches or handwritten notes. Materials are provided, and the workshop is free with advance registration. All registrants will be asked to confirm participation via email the week of the event to retain their spot.
Combeau is a Miami-based artist and educator whose interdisciplinary work focuses on memory, cultural preservation and community collaboration. Sullivan, also known as Sean Was Here, is a creative technology artist specializing in immersive 3D projection mapping installations that connect audiences with digital art in shared physical spaces.
Binding Histories is part of Studio Vizcaya, an annual summer program that invites local artists to collaborate with the community on original, site-inspired works. The series continues over three additional weekends and concludes with a public animated installation on July 26, at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.
