Climate Cafe Series: A Bright Lit Place Part 1
This event has passed.
The University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science presents The Climate Café: A Bright Lit Place Part 1 on Wednesday, October 16. This event will explore the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP), the largest water restoration project in U.S. history, enacted by Congress in 2000 to revive the Everglades ecosystem. Hosted by award-winning WLRN NPR environment reporter Jenny Staletovich, the discussion will delve into the origins of CERP and the science behind its development, highlighting how this initiative aimed to give Florida a head start in combating climate change but fell short in some areas.
Guest speakers include Dr. Thomas Van Lent, Senior Scientist at Friends of the Everglades, and Curtis Osceola, Chief of Staff of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida. Together, they will provide insights into the restoration process and its current status. Part of the Pulitzer Center’s Connected Coastlines reporting initiative, this event offers an opportunity to engage with climate science and understand its implications for South Florida.
The event will also be available via Zoom for those unable to attend in person.
