Creative Improv String Workshop
May 16, 2025
From: 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Explore new musical possibilities in a collaborative setting designed for string players of all levels through a full day of improvisation, coaching and community-building.
The Creative Improv String Workshop takes place on Saturday, May 17 at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center. Led by jazz violinists Christian Howes and Nicole Yarling, with guest appearances by renowned performers Karen Briggs and Ken Ford, the workshop offers hands-on sessions that encourage participants to experiment with improvisation, develop creative techniques and engage in live jam circles.
The agenda includes warm-up activities, breakout sessions with instructors and open jam opportunities, along with a complimentary lunch for all attendees. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced string player, the workshop invites participants to move beyond traditional notation and explore improvisational methods across genres. Free venue parking is available, and all instruments in the string family—violin, viola, cello and bass—are welcome.
