This event has passed.
A poignant documentary explores Cuba's cultural landscape through the eyes of one of its most influential literary families. En un rincón del alma (In One Corner of the Soul), screening on Thursday, February 27, is part of Miami Dade College's Cuban Cinema Series at the Koubek Memorial Center in Little Havana.
Directed by Jorge Dalton, the film chronicles the personal journey of poet, writer and screenwriter Eliseo Alberto Diego (Lichi), whose family's artistic legacy spans five decades of Cuban history. Through Lichi's perspective, viewers gain insight into a generation of young creators who witnessed the transformation of revolutionary promises into systematic repression following the 1959 Castro regime.
The screening, presented by the Miami Film Festival and curated by renowned film critic Alejandro Ríos, includes complimentary valet parking and features live music. This free event takes place in the newly renovated theater at the Koubek Center, where refreshments will be available for purchase.
Diego, known for his screenplay of Guantanamera and his Alfaguara Prize-winning novel Caracol Beach, shares his family's experiences against the backdrop of Cuba's shifting political and social landscape, providing a personal account of artistic life under totalitarian rule.
