Daniel Lewis Birthday Celebration

Celebrate the legacy of dance luminary Daniel Lewis.
Join in honoring renowned dance educator and mentor Dr. Daniel Lewis on his 80th birthday. This special event will take place on Sunday, October 6 at the New World School of the Arts Dance Theater.
The afternoon will feature a performance by Dance NOW! Miami, including a revival of Lewis' seminal work Open Book from 1981, as well as selections from the company's current repertoire. New World School of the Arts dance students will present a Martha Graham masterpiece, while renowned dancer Masha Dashinka Maddux, a former principal with the Martha Graham Company and NWSA alumna, will perform a solo choreographed by Gerri Houlihan.
Following the performances, a reception will celebrate Lewis' life and career with tributes from esteemed colleagues and friends including Donna Krasnow, Michael Uthoff, Artistic Director of Dance St. Louis; Dante Puleio, Artistic Director of the Limón Dance Company; and Robert Battle, former Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Miami Dance Futures, a non-profit dedicated to supporting the growth of dance in Florida and New York.
