Etienne Charles

Caribbean rhythms and contemporary jazz meet in a free outdoor performance by trumpeter, composer and bandleader Etienne Charles at Lummus Park on Miami Beach. The concert takes place Sunday, August 23, as part of the weekly Ocean Drive Promenade Music Series presented by the Ocean Drive Association. Audiences are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics for the early evening performance between 14th Street and 14th Place.

Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Charles blends straight-ahead jazz with musical traditions from across the Caribbean, drawing on French, Spanish, English and Dutch influences. A graduate of The Juilliard School, he is also a professor of studio music and jazz at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music.

The performance runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. In case of rain, the concert moves indoors to The Betsy - South Beach.
