Jazz at Hormel: Nicole Henry

Cabaret-style jazz, R&B classics and big-band energy come together in an intimate Frost School of Music concert at the Knight Center for Music Innovation. The Thursday, November 12 program features two performances, at 7 and 9 p.m., with vocalist Nicole Henry joining the Frost Studio Jazz Band at the Hormel Innovation Stage. Directed by trumpeter Etienne Charles, the concert is part of the Frost School of Music’s 2026-2027 season.

Henry is a Miami-based jazz vocalist known for soulful interpretations of the American Songbook, jazz standards, blues and contemporary popular music. Her accolades include a Soul Train Award for Best Traditional Jazz Performance, and her performances often move fluidly between jazz phrasing, R&B feeling and cabaret-style storytelling.

Charles, a Trinidad-born trumpeter, composer and Frost faculty member, brings a Caribbean-informed jazz perspective to the program. Paired with the Frost Studio Jazz Band, the evening places Henry’s vocals within a close-up club setting designed to evoke the atmosphere of a classic jazz room in Coral Gables.
