Jazz In The Jungle: Calixto Oviedo & The Cuban Jazz Train

Spend an evening immersed in the rhythms of Afro-Cuban jazz surrounded by tropical greenery at one of Miami Beach’s most scenic outdoor venues. This concert pairs virtuosic live performance with genre-blending DJ sets for a night that bridges tradition and innovation in Latin jazz.

Jazz in the Jungle: Calixto Oviedo & The Cuban Jazz Train, presented by Miami Jazz Booking, takes place on Friday, May 9 from 7:00 at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. The event features Latin Grammy-nominated drummer Calixto Oviedo, a veteran of Cuba’s Timba and jazz scenes known for his work with NG La Banda and collaborations with artists like Paquito D’Rivera and Chucho Valdés. His ensemble, The Cuban Jazz Train, brings a high-energy blend of classic Cuban rhythms and modern improvisation.

Adding to the evening’s lineup is DJ Maurice Bernstein, co-founder of Giant Step and an influential figure in music curation whose DJ sets traverse jazz, soul, electronic and global beats.

Attendees can expect a dynamic mix of live music and DJ performance in an open-air garden setting. The event is part of the ongoing Jazz in the Jungle concert series.
