Kickin' It Old School

A book swap, musical chairs and a decades-spanning dance party turn school-day nostalgia into an afternoon of socializing at Dear Eleanor in Wynwood. Kickin’ It Old School takes place Saturday, November 14, presented by We Met Community Connection as a Give Miami Day fundraiser for its work addressing loneliness in South Florida.

Guests can drop in throughout the day for activities organized around a school-inspired schedule:

• Noon–3 p.m.: Bake sale and book swap. Bring a wrapped book you read in school for the white elephant exchange, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
• 3–5 p.m.: Musical chairs, with check-in followed by the DJ-accompanied competition from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
• 5:30–6 p.m.: Disco dance class with Nina Osoria Ahmadi. No experience or partner is necessary.
• 6–9 p.m.: Dance Through the Decades, moving from the ’80s to the ’90s and ’00s, with costume contests and dance-offs.

Admission, the book swap, dance class and social dancing are free. A $25 donation provides a “Hall Pass,” including a place in musical chairs and five tickets redeemable for baked goods, costume contest entries or dance-offs. Additional activity tickets are $5 each.

The event is open to guests ages 21 and older. Free parking is available in the adjacent lot at 120 NE 27th Street.
