KIDS: An Evening with Geoffrey Philp
Feb 15, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
Literature takes center stage in an engaging program designed to introduce young readers to a pivotal figure in civil rights history. An Evening with Geoffrey Philp at Books & Books in Coral Gables on Saturday, March 15 features the acclaimed author sharing insights from his groundbreaking graphic novel My Name is Marcus.
The book transforms the story of Marcus Garvey, Jamaica's first national hero, into an accessible visual narrative for children ages 8-12. Through this innovative biography, Philp, a Silver Musgrave Medal recipient, brings Garvey's journey from Jamaica to his leadership in the Pan-African movement to life for a new generation.
During this free public event, Philp will discuss and read from his work, which aims to make complex historical events and ideas accessible to young minds. The author's distinguished career includes publication in The Oxford Book of Caribbean Verse and recognition with the Marcus Garvey Award for Excellence in Education.
This family-friendly evening offers attendees the opportunity to purchase books and meet the author. While the event is free, attendees are encouraged to RSVP to secure their spot.
