La Virgen y El Gitano

Experience a striking blend of literature and flamenco as Ballet Flamenco La Rosa presents La Virgen y El Gitano, an original ballet inspired by D.H. Lawrence’s The Virgin and the Gypsy. Directed by Ilisa Rosal, this world premiere brings together 16 artists from Spain, Latin America and the U.S., featuring live music, original choreography and improvisation by some of today’s leading flamenco performers.

Set to music composed and performed live by the company’s acclaimed guitarist and singer, the ballet follows Yvette, a young woman seeking liberation from a stifling home life. Her encounter with a gypsy man—full of vitality and sensuality—sparks a personal awakening. Through flamenco’s raw emotional intensity, the story explores themes of desire, identity and the boundaries imposed by society.

Performances will be held at the Koubek Center in Miami on Saturday, June 21 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 22 at 3 p.m. Tickets range from $35 to $40.
