LIZN’BOW: Niñalandia Skycoaster
Through Sep 12, 2026
weekly on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
From: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Opening on September 7 and running through November 2, the multimedia experience Niñalandia Skycoaster by LIZN’BOW will be on display at Locust Projects. This innovative installation invites participants to embark on a virtual reality rollercoaster ride set within the artists' Niñalandia Mixed Reality Multiverse - a queer-futurist, post-apocalyptic vision of Miami. The experience begins with participants seated in a 2006 Buick Rendezvous, custom-wrapped in a digital collage, which becomes their rollercoaster cart as they are transported into a surreal theme park.
The immersive installation combines projected animations and a dynamic sound score, merging physical and digital spaces. As visitors navigate through this virtual world, they encounter iconic elements from Niñalandia, including a jet-ski unicorn cow and a mountain of burning money, all set against neon-colored skies. Drawing inspiration from early-internet games like RollerCoaster Tycoon and Mario Kart, the exhibition uses nostalgic aesthetics to explore themes of inclusivity and reimagined entertainment.
Supported by Locust Projects and part of the Knight Digital Commissions, Niñalandia Skycoaster aligns with contemporary trends in art and technology, promoting interactivity and accessibility. This project challenges traditional exhibition norms, inviting discourse on Miami-inspired iconography and the broader social themes embedded in the artists’ work.
LIZN’BOW, the collaborative duo of Liz Ferrer and Bow Ty, have been recognized for their work that spans filmmaking, photography, music and performance art. Known for their critique of American and Latin pop culture through a queer and comedic lens, their projects have been showcased at numerous prestigious institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami and the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami. Niñalandia Skycoaster was selected as a “Curator’s Pick” by Locust Projects’ Executive Director Lorie Mertes.
The opening reception for Niñalandia Skycoaster will take place on September 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., followed by a performance from 8:00 to 8:30 p.m.
