Locust Late: Lenny Foret Livecoding Workshop
May 08, 2025
From: 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Explore the intersection of code, sound and experimental performance during an evening that blends creative technology with immersive art. This hybrid event offers both a hands-on introduction to livecoding and a rare Miami performance by a boundary-pushing audiovisual duo.
Locust Late at The DiLL takes place on Thursday, May 8 at Locust Projects. The evening begins with Sound + Code: Livecoding 101, a workshop led by multimedia artist and Everglades Computer Club member Lenny Foret. Participants will learn how to compose generative music in real time using tools like Tidal Cycles, SuperCollider and VSCode with Haskell. The workshop is beginner-friendly; attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop and headphones.
Following the workshop, Portland-based duo MSHR—comprised of artists Brenna Murphy and Birch Cooper—will present a live performance inside a large-scale geodesic dome installation, part of Blackstar 16/24/60 by Tomas Vu. Known for integrating custom synthesizers, open-source systems and analog circuitry, MSHR creates interactive, cybernetic environments that respond to presence and movement. Their work has been featured at international venues including Transmediale (Berlin), Eyebeam (NYC), and Kunstverein Düsseldorf.
Admission is free and open to all. Refreshments will be provided. Presented as part of the Knight Foundation-supported Digital Innovation Lounge + LAB.
