Celebrate Dia de los Muertos with a hands-on cultural experience at Make-and-Take: Sugar Skulls Workshop for Families, held on Sunday, October 20, at Vizcaya Village Farmers Market. Led by experts from Ameyal Mexican Cultural Academy, this workshop will guide participants through the history and tradition of creating sugar skulls, or calaveritas de azucar, while providing all the materials needed to craft your own. Ideal for families with children ages 6-12, but open to all, this event offers an opportunity to explore Mexican cultural heritage. The workshop takes place at Vizcaya Village and requires preregistration due to limited space.

Additionally, enjoy a captivating danza conchera performance, featuring traditional Aztec music and dance, at Noon in the Farm Quad—no preregistration required.
Sugar skulls, or calaveras de azúcar, are a traditional Mexican folk art used during Dia de los Muertos to honor loved ones who have passed. Decorated with icing, foil and beads, they symbolize the departed and are placed on altars (ofrendas) as part of the celebration.
