Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz: Halloween Edition

Funky instrumental hip-hop, soulful downtempo and hazy beats set the tone for a Halloween dance floor led by Mark Farina and guest DJ Nutritious. The 18-and-older celebration takes place Saturday, October 31 at ZeyZey Miami. The event marks 35 years of Mushroom Jazz, Farina’s genre-blurring series of recordings and DJ sets.

Farina developed the Mushroom Jazz sound by weaving West Coast jazz-inflected beats, acid jazz, Chicago house and 1990s hip-hop into fluid downtempo sets. The series grew from a weekly San Francisco club night into multiple mix albums, including Mushroom Jazz 8, which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart in 2016.

DJ and producer Nutritious joins Farina after previously performing with him on Mushroom Jazz dates across the United States and aboard Jam Cruise. Known for crate-digging, live improvisation and wide-ranging selections, he adds another layer of soul, rhythm and experimentation to the Halloween edition.

ZeyZey is an open-air cultural venue serving seasonal cocktails, natural wines and nonalcoholic drinks, along with grass-fed, seed-oil-free tacos from Tacos María.
