Craft, connect and create a community tapestry at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.
Vizcaya Museum & Gardens invites you to participate in a unique artistic journey this summer with the Mega Weaving Workshop: Studio Vizcaya. Led by acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Vanya Allen, this workshop offers a chance to create a large-scale human tapestry performance, as an example of community art and collaboration.
The workshop takes place over four sessions across two weekends: June 29-30 and July 6-7 (Saturdays and Sundays). During these sessions, participants will:
- Learn weaving basics: No prior experience is necessary. The workshop starts by building a foundation in weaving techniques and terminology. You'll work on small looms before embarking on the larger project.
- Experience collaborative creativity: Weaving strips of cloth together becomes a metaphor for building connections. This workshop celebrates co-creation and encourages participants to understand the intricate fabric of society.
- Master inclusive creation: Learn how to seamlessly integrate participants into the live artwork, reflecting the ever-evolving nature of community dynamics.
From beginners to seasoned artists, this free workshop is open to all levels. At the culmination of the workshop there will be a live performance showcasing the collective artwork - a human loom weaving together the stories and dreams of participants. This piece will be displayed in Vizcaya Gardens on July 13.
To ensure these programs remain accessible to all, the museum utilizes a double confirmation system. After registering through Eventbrite, you'll receive a follow-up email from Vizcaya Museum. To secure your spot, simply reply to confirm your attendance. Spots will be released to the waitlist if confirmation is not received.
