Step into a speculative future with Morning // Mourning, running from October 17 to 19 at The Art Lab at MDC Wolfson. Created and written by Gelsey Bell and directed by Tara Ahmadinejad, this innovative performance takes place 1.6 billion years in the future, envisioning an Earth without humans where nature undergoes a profound and beautiful transformation.
Combining elements of live music, modern opera and drama, a five-person ensemble of vocalists and multi-instrumentalists narrates the story of nature’s regrowth, inspired by Alan Weisman’s The World Without Us. Through whimsical storytelling and compelling music, the performance invites the audience to reflect on their relationship with the planet, offering a hopeful look at a post-human future where nature thrives in unexpected ways.
This South Florida premiere is part of Live Arts Miami's Future Earth series, celebrating the organization’s 35th anniversary with a season dedicated to exploring the intersection of art, innovation and climate awareness.
