Olga de Amaral: ICA Miami Symposium
Sep 20, 2025
From: 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM
An afternoon symposium at ICA Miami explores the work of Olga de Amaral, a pioneering Colombian artist whose textile-based practice has redefined the possibilities of fiber art. Known for blending weaving, knotting and braiding into abstract sculptural forms, Amaral’s seven-decade career draws from Bauhaus modernism, Constructivism, Indigenous weaving traditions and Colombian abstraction.
Scholars and curators will discuss her impact on both modernism and global textile art, highlighting how her practice complicates distinctions between craft, fine art and cultural tradition. The program coincides with the exhibition Olga de Amaral, presented in collaboration with the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain and on view through October 12.
The Olga de Amaral: ICA Miami Symposium takes place Saturday, September 20 at the ICA Miami Expansion, organized by curators Marie Perennès and Stephanie Seidel.
