The Hispanic Heritage Film Festival continues on Saturday, October 12, at Tower Theater with Realidades y Sueños: Cinema Explorations, a captivating shorts block featuring seven experimental and documentary films. This collection presents a vivid exploration of diverse realities and imaginative dreams through unique and innovative storytelling.
The lineup includes:
- ¿Cuándo perdí mi cabeza? - A soon-to-graduate Mexican-American college student faces sudden visions and encounters ancient entities as he questions his identity. Directed by Marlon Rubio Smith.
- ¿Que Hay Allí Afuera? - Manolo Lazaro reflects on his departure from Cuba and struggles to stay connected with family during the 2021 protests. Directed by Mateo Formoso-DeLucia.
- Amor chiquitico - Set in present-day Cuba, this film follows María, a strong matriarch worried about her family’s future amidst challenging conditions. Directed by Augusto Castillo.
- Ecuavóley - A documentary showcasing how Ecuadorians in Brussels come together daily to play this popular sport. Directed by Xavier Solano.
- Lupe Q y la Arepa Galatica - Aliens, punk rock, and corn cakes collide in space, where only Abuela's lessons can save the day. Directed by Javier Badillo.
- Mezclada - Tami, a skier with a mixed identity, navigates cultural duality and embarks on a journey of self-discovery in Jackson Hole while reconnecting with her Argentine roots. Directed by Karlos Jeri.
- Rooted in Cuba - This documentary reflects on the Cuban-American experience and explores the future of cultural identity once familial connections to Cuba are gone. Directed by Alexandra Rodriguez.
Doors open at 4:00 p.m., and following the screening, attendees can engage in an exclusive Q&A session with the directors.
