Jun 05, 2025
Starting: 6:00 PM
Archival photographs offer a rare glimpse into the early 20th-century life of one of Miami’s most historically significant neighborhoods. Through images documenting the streets, families and cultural rhythms of Overtown, this exhibition traces the evolution of a community that helped shape the city’s identity.
Sepia Vernacular: Overtown’s Photographic Journey 1920-1950 opens Thursday, June 5 at the Lawson E. Thomas Building in Overtown. Presented by the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (SEOPW CRA) and the City of Miami Planning Department, the exhibition features over 80 photographs from the department’s archives, including selections from Color Town, a 1940 series by photographer Max Waldman. Admission is free and open to the public.
