Seraph Brass
Sep 26, 2024
Starting: 7:30 PM
On Thursday, September 26, Seraph Brass will grace the stage at Newman Recital Hall, celebrating its tenth anniversary with a performance that showcases the excellence of female brass players and musicians from marginalized groups. This award-winning ensemble, recognized for its "beautiful sounds" (American Record Guide) and "staggeringly high caliber of performance" (Textura), brings a diverse and compelling program to Miami.
The evening's repertoire spans a wide range of musical traditions, including original transcriptions, newly commissioned works and classical favorites. Audiences can look forward to pieces by prominent women composers like Rene Orth, Reena Esmail and Catherine McMichael, as well as works by American and European composers such as Kevin Day, Anthony DiLorenzo, Giuseppe Verdi and Franz Liszt. Highlights of the program include Sempre Libera from Verdi's La Traviata, the energetic Vuelta del Fuego by Kevin McKee, and Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.
Led by trumpeter Mary Elizabeth Bowden, the ensemble features Raquel Samayoa on trumpet, Layan Atieh on horn, Lauren Casey-Clyde on trombone and Cristina Cutts Dougherty on tuba.
