Shibori & Indigo Dying Workshop
This event has passed.
Explore the world of natural dyeing at the Shibori and Indigo Dyeing workshop at Pinecrest Gardens on Thursday, September 19. This immersive class, part of the Curious Gardener Workshops series hosted in collaboration with Fiber Artists Miami Association (FAMA), delves into the ancient art of indigo dyeing. Participants will learn about the history and properties of indigo, a natural blue dye derived from plants, while exploring Kumo ("spider") Shibori and Arashi Shibori techniques. These traditional Japanese methods involve manipulating fabric to create unique resist patterns before dyeing.
The workshop emphasizes the process-oriented nature of working with indigo, highlighting patience and the beauty of unexpected results. Attendees will gain hands-on experience with fabric preparation, indigo vat creation and applying Shibori tying techniques. Each participant will create two indigo-dyed artworks to take home.
Comfortable clothing is recommended, as some aspects of the workshop may take place outdoors. A complimentary beverage is included with registration. Please note that this workshop is intended for participants aged 21 and over.
