A gifted young girl discovers an extraordinary way to stand up to the adults who mistreat her in an outdoor screening of Matilda at SoundScape Park in Miami Beach. The Wednesday, December 16 presentation is part of the 17th season of the free SoundScape Cinema Series, which projects films onto the 7,000-square-foot wall of the New World Center.
Directed by Danny DeVito and based on Roald Dahl’s novel, the 1996 family comedy follows Matilda Wormwood, an exceptionally intelligent child whose neglectful parents fail to recognize her abilities. After discovering she has telekinetic powers, Matilda finds support in her kindhearted teacher, Miss Honey, and begins pushing back against the cruelty around her.
The PG-rated film is presented outdoors, rain or shine. Attendees may bring blankets and picnic baskets for the screening.
