Spain, My Love: Opera Meets Ballet

Opera and ballet converge in a program celebrating Spanish heritage at the Miracle Theatre. The evening opens with the world premiere of Juana Inés, a one-act opera by Venezuelan composer Federico Ruiz with libretto by Daniel Daroca, portraying Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, 17th-century Mexican nun, poet and scholar, grappling with the tension between faith and intellectual pursuit. The performance features Opera Atelier in collaboration with Voices of Miami.

The second half continues with Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida performing Alberto Méndez’s Tarde en la Siesta, set to the music of Ernesto Lecuona, and Vladimir Issaev’s Viva España, choreographed to music by Jules Massenet. Together, the works blend nostalgia and exuberance in a tribute to Spanish culture.

Spain, My Love: Opera Meets Ballet takes place Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28 at Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre.
