Sweat Records & Black Miami-Dade: MIAMI SOUND 2 Release Party
Nov 14, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Funk and soul recordings from Miami’s TK Records era set the backdrop for a conversation about the city’s musical history. Sweat Records and Black Miami-Dade host the listening party and talk on Saturday, November 14, at Sweat’s Little Haiti shop. Journalist and Black Miami-Dade founder Nadege Green speaks with Asher Makeba, daughter and musical collaborator of singer Betty Wright.
The gathering celebrates Sweat’s exclusive edition of Miami Sound 2, released by UK label Soul Jazz Records. The compilation traces Miami’s soul, funk, disco and boogie sound through recordings by Wright, Timmy Thomas, Gwen McCrae, Clarence Reid, Little Beaver and others associated with Henry Stone’s Hialeah-based TK Records operation. Sweat’s edition is pressed on magenta vinyl and available exclusively through the store.
Green founded Black Miami-Dade in 2020 to document and share the county’s Black history through research, storytelling and public programs.
All ages are welcome, and refreshments will be available.
