The Bass Dialogues with Isaac Julien
Dec 05, 2025
From: 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
A celebrated artist revisits one of his most influential works in a timely conversation about art, history, and representation.
The Bass Dialogues with Isaac Julien takes place Friday, December 5 at The Bass on Miami Beach. Moderated by Silvia Karman Cubiñá, Executive Director of The Bass, the discussion explores Julien’s acclaimed video installation Vagabondia (2000), a recent gift from collectors Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz and now on view at the museum.
A Turner Prize–nominated British artist known for his poetic, multi-screen installations, Julien was among the first to reimagine the museum as a site where hidden histories and suppressed voices could emerge. Twenty-five years after its debut, Vagabondia remains strikingly resonant. This conversation reflects on the work’s lasting cultural impact and its continued relevance in today’s art discourse.
Part of The Bass Dialogues, an ongoing series pairing artists, curators and cultural thinkers for public discussions on art and ideas.
