Enjoy an evening of jazz and holiday cheer on Saturday, December 14 with The Duke Ellington Jazz Nutcracker & Holiday Concert at Sanctuary of the Arts. Presented by Sanctuary of the Arts and the New Canon Chamber Collective, this festive performance reimagines Tchaikovsky’s classic Nutcracker with the lively jazz arrangements of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. The evening features New Canon’s 18-piece big band orchestra delivering toe-tapping renditions of holiday favorites, along with dance performances by the Choreographic Ensemble training program.
New Canon Chamber Collective, founded in 2021 by Portia Dunkley, is dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion in South Florida’s classical music community. This vibrant concert offers a fresh twist on a beloved tradition, blending the timeless charm of holiday music with the energy of jazz and dance.
