
The True Story of the MS St. Louis

The Miami Beach Holocaust Memorial commemorates the forgotten story of the MS St. Louis on Thursday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Miami Beach JCC.
Dr. Diane Afoumado, Chief of the Holocaust Survivors and Victims Resource Center at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, will deliver a presentation exploring the dramatic journey of the MS St. Louis in 1939. Through historical documents, photos and artifacts from the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Dr. Afoumado will examine the plight of over 900 Jewish refugees seeking escape from Nazi persecution.
The presentation will delve into:
- The passengers' attempt to find refuge in Cuba and the United States.
- The complex political climate that led to their denial of entry.
- The tragic fate of many passengers after their forced return to Europe.
This event offers a chance to learn about a lesser-known chapter of Holocaust history and its connection to Miami Beach.
