A museum internship turns into a sharp comedy of ambition, deception and high-stakes art-world politics in GableStage’s regional premiere of Jessica Provenz’s play. True Art runs November 20 through December 20 at GableStage’s Wolfson Family Theatre at The Biltmore in Coral Gables.
Directed by GableStage Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport, the play follows a young art history major who lands a job at a prominent museum and is drawn into a world of power struggles, shifting loyalties and questions about authenticity. Set against a backdrop of champagne, ambition and disputed masterpieces, the comedy examines how value is assigned in both art and career-building.
The production is part of GableStage’s 28th season, which features regional and Florida premieres at the company’s Coral Gables home. Timed during Miami’s peak art season, True Art brings a satirical lens to museums, cultural gatekeeping and the pressures facing those trying to make their way in the art world.
Performances are scheduled Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on Wednesdays, Sundays and the final Saturday at 2 p.m.
