Uprooted
Oct 12, 2024 - Nov 02, 2024
weekly on Saturday
From: 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
O, Miami presents Uprooted, a four-part exploration of displacement in Miami, facilitated by teaching artist Isabella Marie Garcia. This immersive experience is open to participants of all ages and experience levels. The workshop series will delve into topics such as immigration, exile, gentrification, race and gender-based systemic issues, the shadow self, neurodivergence, ableism and disability. Participants will use poetry and alternative photography to express their thoughts and experiences, gaining hands-on experience with natural and chemical-based transfer processes. In addition to individual artworks, participants will work together to create a collaborative piece that reflects on Miami's "care matrix."
The workshops will take place on Saturdays, October 12, 19, 26 and November 2, at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center. Workshops are scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and participation requires an application by September 6. Admission is $150 per participant (includes instruction and supplies), with limited need-based scholarships available. Spoken instruction will be provided in English and Spanish.
