Watercolor Techniques
Jan 22, 2026 - Feb 26, 2026
weekly on Thursday
From: 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
A six-week studio course at Oolite Arts offers a structured introduction to watercolor, guiding participants through foundational techniques while building confidence with this expressive and often unpredictable medium.
Designed for beginners and intermediate artists, the class combines demonstrations, sketching and guided painting exercises that focus on materials, brush handling, layering, texture, timing and composition. Students will examine master watercolor works to better understand how classic techniques are applied, then experiment with approaches such as wet-into-wet, wet-into-dry, washes, glazes, color harmony and value control. Subject matter includes still life, portraiture and landscape, with opportunities to explore both representational and abstract work.
Each session concludes with a group critique, encouraging thoughtful discussion and the development of a critical eye. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to plan and execute watercolor paintings, make informed choices about materials and translate ideas into finished compositions.
Watercolor Techniques runs Thursdays from January 22 through February 26 at Oolite Arts. Instruction is led by Will McGaul, a professional art educator and member of the Miami and Gold Coast Watercolor Societies. Materials are not included; a supply list is provided upon registration.
