William D. Talbert III, CDME
President & Chief Executive Officer


William Talbert was named CEO & President in 1999, of the official destination marketing organization for Greater Miami and The Beaches. The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) is a not-for-profit organization that has more than 1,100 business partners and four inter-local government partners. Its mission, under Mr. Talbert’s leadership, is to promote Miami-Dade County as a preferred convention, business and leisure destination in both domestic and international markets, as well as supporting actions and programs to further this charge.

As President & CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, Inc. (GMCVB) for the past 19 years, and Chief Operating Officer for the previous nine, Mr. Talbert has distinguished himself as a highly respected visitor industry and community leader. He holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Florida Atlantic University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Florida.

Included among his major accomplishments are:

  • He assisted with the passage of the Travel Promotion Act of 2010 and the Miami-Dade County Food and Beverage Tax to fund the GMCVB’s advertising budget.
  • He strategically negotiated interlocal government funding agreements.
  • As a result of five successful NFL Super Bowl bids, Greater Miami has hosted four Super Bowls, with the fifth one being Super Bowl LIV, the NFL’s Centennial Celebration in 2020.
  • As a result of four successful International Pow Wow bids, Greater Miami has hosted four U.S. Travel Association’s International Pow Wow events.
  • He played an integral role in a successful 1994 campaign for much-needed taxi reform in Miami-Dade County.
  • He helped establish the Black Hospitality Initiative of Greater Miami in 1991 to increase African-American participation in the visitor industry through hospitality scholarships. To date, more than 100 college scholarships and well over $1 million has been raised.



Rolando Aedo, CDME
Chief Operating Officer


Rolando Aedo has been a senior staff member of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) since 1994. He currently serves as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and works closely with the President and CEO on all operational aspects of the GMCVB including governmental relations and stakeholder engagement and support.

As the former Chief Marketing Officer, he also leads the overall marketing strategy and brand development to drive consumer and business demand for Greater Miami and the Beaches as a preferred destination for vacation, meetings, conventions and major events. He also oversees several areas that help drive private revenue to the organization including an 1,100-member partnership division.

Mr. Aedo has degrees from Miami-Dade College and Florida International University and an MBA in International Business from the University of Miami. He is also a Certified Destination Management Executive and was recognized as one of the top 25 “extraordinary minds” in sales and marketing by the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International.

Born in Norfolk, Virginia to Cuban parents, he came to Miami at a very early age where he has spent most of his life and is professionally and civically active. He currently serves on the boards of the Miami Dade County Taxi Advisory Group, Miami Bayside Foundation and the Education Fund among others.


Alvin L. West, CDME
Chief Financial Officer & Senior Vice President, Finance & Administration


As CFO & Senior Vice President, Mr. West is responsible for the financial affairs of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB). Additionally, he oversees the Finance, Human Resources, Administration and Information Technology Divisions of the Bureau. Mr. West is an MBA graduate of the University of Chicago. Mr. West is also a recipient of the prestigious Certified Destination Marketing Executive (CDME) certification.

Mr. West has provided the leadership responsible for raising in excess of $3 million in revenue and in-kind contributions for scholarships, helping young African American adults seeking a career in hospitality and tourism. Mr. West is involved in many civic organizations including the Career Source South Florida (Past-Chairman), the Downtown Development Authority (Board Treasurer), and the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce (Past Chairman and current Board Treasurer). In addition, Mr. West is past Chairman for the Academy of Hospitality & Tourism, Vice Chairman of the Black Hospitality Initiative and Board Member of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. Mr. West was the 2009 recipient of the South Florida “Tourism Professional of the Year” award.

Prior to joining the GMCVB in 1992, Mr. West was the CFO for the Chicago American Red Cross. Mr. West also held senior management positions in the Healthcare industry in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota and Chicago, Illinois.
