A Fuego

Satire, wordplay and metatheatrical performance drive a solo work about ambition, notoriety and the desire to be remembered. Running Friday, September 11 through Sunday, September 13, at the Koubek Center, A Fuego is part of the 40th International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami and features Spanish playwright-performer Pablo Macho Otero under the direction of Emma Arquillué and Macho Otero. The production is presented by La Bella Otero of Spain.

Performed entirely in verse, the monologue follows a protagonist whose fascination with Herostratus, the ancient Greek figure who burned the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus in pursuit of lasting fame, gradually becomes an obsession. Moving among multiple characters, Macho Otero uses satire and self-reflexive humor to examine megalomania, contemporary narcissism and the human impulse to leave a mark through art, work, revolution or notoriety.

Performances take place Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 5 p.m.
