America at a Milestone: Writing 250 Years of History
Nov 21, 2026
Starting: 3:00 PM
America’s milestone anniversaries offer a lens on race, freedom and national memory in a conversation with scholar Eddie S. Glaude Jr. Presented as part of Miami Book Fair, the discussion takes place Saturday, November 21 at the Chapman Conference Center at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. Journalist Dr. Russell O. Motley moderates the session.
Glaude’s America, U.S.A.: How Race Shadows the Nation’s Anniversaries examines how commemorations of the country’s founding have shaped—and sometimes obscured—its history of racial inequality. In the year of the nation’s 250th anniversary, the book considers who helps define the American story, drawing on the writings of W.E.B. Du Bois, Herman Melville and Martin Luther King Jr. A Princeton University professor of African American Studies, Glaude is also the author of Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own.
The session is held in Building 3, second floor, Room 3210. Admission is included with a paid Saturday Street Fair ticket, but a separate event ticket is required. General audience members may reserve one event ticket; Friends of the Fair ticket allotments vary by membership level. A copy of the book is not included.
