An Evening with Author George M. Johnson
This event has passed.
Join the Books & Books Literary Foundation on Wednesday, October 30, for an evening with George M. Johnson as they discuss their latest book, Flamboyants: The Queer Harlem Renaissance I Wish I'd Known. From the New York Times–bestselling author of All Boys Aren’t Blue, this collection of essays celebrates Black and Queer icons from the 1920s Harlem Renaissance whose stories have often been overlooked.
In Flamboyants, Johnson highlights the contributions of writers, performers, and activists from 1920s Black America, revealing how their legacies have shaped American culture. The book interweaves personal narratives, powerful poetry and illustrations by award-winning artist Charly Palmer, offering a comprehensive look at the intersection of Black and Queer identities.
This event provides an opportunity to engage with George M. Johnson, an Emmy-nominated author and activist known for their work on race, gender and culture. Johnson's previous memoir, All Boys Aren’t Blue, was a New York Times bestseller and a significant voice against book bans.
