An Evening with Dan Reiter
Apr 29, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
Beneath the same skies that witnessed historic rocket launches, a vibrant surf culture has been quietly thriving for generations. Books & Books presents An Evening with Dan Reiter on Tuesday, April 29 at 7pm, where the author will discuss his new book On a Rising Swell: Surf Stories from Florida's Space Coast.
Drawing from extensive interviews and personal experience, Reiter's work illuminates the rich history of surfing along the stretch of coastline between Cape Canaveral and Sebastian Inlet. His book traces the evolution of Florida surf culture from the native Ais people to modern champions like Kelly Slater and Caroline Marks, while exploring the distinctive characteristics of East Coast surfboard design and manufacturing.
The Montreal-born author, whose writing has appeared in prestigious publications including The Surfer's Journal and Kenyon Review, offers insights into a community where dedicated surfers still gather before dawn, chasing waves with the same passion that drove their predecessors. Reiter's collection of stories captures both the technical aspects of the sport and the personal narratives of those who have made Florida's Space Coast a legendary surfing destination.
This free event will be held at the Books & Books location in Coral Gables, with copies of On a Rising Swell available for purchase.
