Little Haiti Book Festival
May 04, 2025
Celebrate the literary and cultural traditions of Haiti during Haitian Heritage Month. The Little Haiti Book Festival returns on Sunday, May 4, at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, with additional online programming available on Sunday, May 18.
Co-presented by Miami Book Fair and Sosyete Koukouy, this dual-format festival showcases the cultural heritage and contemporary voices of Haiti and its diaspora. The in-person event features a dynamic marketplace with books in English, Haitian Creole and French, alongside food vendors and local exhibitors. Throughout the day, cultural ambassador Mecca "Grimo" Marcelin will entertain and guide attendees through the festivities while they enjoy performances including traditional dance by NSL Dance Ensemble, rhythmic music from Papaloko & Loray Mistik and continuous Haitian beats from DJ Nickymix.
The festival offers thoughtful panel discussions on timely topics such as the future of Little Haiti and immigration policy affecting the Haitian community. Families will find numerous activities in the Children's Alley, including storytelling sessions with cultural ambassadors Liliane Nerette Louis and Lucrèce Louisdhon Louinis, interactive workshops and free books for young readers.
Additional programming continues online on May 18, featuring renowned authors including Edwidge Danticat and Myriam J.A. Chancy discussing themes of resistance, identity and cultural preservation in both English and Haitian Creole sessions.
This community celebration provides a platform for cultural exchange while highlighting the contributions of Haitian literature, arts and thought to Miami's diverse cultural landscape.
