An Evening with Eva Silot Bravo and Marysol Quevedo
This event has passed.
Join Books & Books and FIU’s Cuban Research Institute on Friday, September 6, for a conversation with Dr. Eva Silot Bravo about her new book, Cuban Fusion: The Transnational Cuban Alternative Music Scene. In conversation with Dr. Marysol Quevedo, Bravo will delve into the complex and dynamic world of Cuban music.
Bravo’s book explores the profound impact of Cuba’s 1990s economic crisis on the global music landscape. It chronicles the formation of a transnational network of Cuban musicians and their collaborative ventures across different countries. By examining the creation of new artistic spaces, the book offers valuable insights into the growth of Cuban jazz and fusion outside the island in recent decades.
Dr. Eva Silot Bravo is a distinguished Afro-Cuban scholar and artist with expertise in cultural studies and international relations. A faculty member at Oakland School for the Arts, she has made significant contributions to the field through her extensive publications on Cuban music, literature and culture.
Dr. Marysol Quevedo, an Assistant Professor of Musicology at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, is a leading authority on Latin American music. Her research focuses on Cuban music both before and after the 1959 Revolution.
Tickets for this event are free, and books will be available for purchase.
