An Evening with Omar Sixto
Sep 03, 2025
Starting: 7:00 PM
Historian and entrepreneur Omar Sixto offers a critical look at the promises and consequences of Cuba’s 1959 revolution in his new book Se acabó la diversión.
An Evening with Omar Sixto takes place Wednesday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Books & Books in Coral Gables. Drawing on decades of research and personal experience, Sixto revisits the political and economic conditions that led to the revolution and tracks its early implementation, examining how the initial desire for change gave way to a long-standing system marked by repression, economic instability and systemic decline. Published by Vueltabajo Media, the book arrives on the 66th anniversary of the revolution amid Cuba’s ongoing struggles with inflation, energy shortages and diminishing quality of life.
Born in Havana and trained as a historian at the University of Havana, Sixto left Cuba in 1995 to conduct archival research in Spain before settling in Miami. He now runs a local business and writes the blog Cuba Olvidada, which explores the island’s complex past as a way of informing its potential futures.
Admission is free, but a ticket does not include a copy of the book.
