This event has passed.
Gain a deeper understanding of textile-based art practices and their connection to place, ecology and community during an afternoon conversation with artist Pangea Kali Virga. Set within the historic setting of the Deering Estate, this event offers insight into the methods and ideas behind a body of work that merges sustainability with storytelling.
The Artist Talk with Pangea Kali Virga takes place on Saturday, June 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Deering Estate Visitor Center Theater. Presented in conjunction with her solo exhibition To Be Dwellers With This Land, the talk will explore Virga’s hand-embroidered silk works and how they engage with themes of care, land and environmental consciousness. Her pieces are crafted from upcycled materials using layered techniques that reflect both ecological mindfulness and artistic experimentation.
The exhibition is part of the Deering Estate’s Contemporary Currents series and is on view through July 20, in the Garden Room of the Richmond Cottage. Visitors to the exhibition can also take part in interactive features such as a Poetry Post Office, a Botanical Study Station and a scavenger hunt map connecting artworks to locations on the estate.
