From: 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Trumpeter Arturo Sandoval brings Afro-Cuban jazz, bebop, funk and orchestral influences to The Moss Center in a concert centered on his album SANGÚ. The performance takes place Saturday, April 10, drawing on the Cuban-born musician’s decades-long career across jazz, classical music, film composition and big-band writing.
A protégé of Dizzy Gillespie, Sandoval is a 10-time Grammy Award winner, Kennedy Center Honoree and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Known for his virtuosity as both a trumpeter and composer, he has built a career connecting Cuban musical traditions with the broader language of jazz.
SANGÚ places Afro-Cuban percussion, Yoruba spiritual traditions, Cuban phrasing and improvisation at the center of a multigenerational collaboration that includes Sandoval, his son Arturo “Tury” Sandoval III and an ensemble of musicians.
