Jun 18, 2025
From: 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Gain insight into the career of one of the most influential figures behind the global rise of Spanish-language pop music during an evening that blends conversation, history and personal reflection. This live discussion brings together key voices from the Latin music and media world to reflect on the legacy of Manolo Díaz and the cultural impact of his six-decade career in the music industry.
Ayer Tuve un Sueño: Manolo Díaz, Juanes, Emilio Estefan Jr. y Belén Carreño takes place on Wednesday, June 18 at the Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ. Hosted by Books & Books and Penguin Books, the event centers on the release of Ayer tuve un sueño: Manolo Díaz, sesenta años de música pop en español, a 544-page book that traces the evolution of Spanish-language music through the lens of Díaz’s life and work.
In addition to remarks from Díaz, the evening will feature special appearances by Grammy-winning artist Juanes, music producer and entrepreneur Emilio Estefan Jr., cultural curator Nat Chediak, journalist María Elena Salinas and co-author Belén Carreño. The conversation will explore not only key moments in Díaz’s career—such as his role in shaping the success of artists like Julio Iglesias and Carlos Vives—but also the broader development of Latin music as a global phenomenon.
The event is free to attend, and books will be available for purchase onsite. Guests are asked to RSVP in advance.
