Bach's Brandenburg Concertos
Mar 06, 2027 - Mar 07, 2027
Sat: 7:30 PM | Sun: 2:00 PM
Bach’s vibrant concerto writing, Vivaldi’s variations and Mozart’s Classical drama come together in a chamber-orchestra program led by Jeannette Sorrell. The concert takes place Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7 at New World Center in Miami Beach as part of New World Symphony’s 2026-2027 season. Performed by Fellows of the New World Symphony, the program highlights Baroque and Classical works shaped by rhythmic drive, instrumental color and ensemble precision.
The first half centers on Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 and Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, two works known for their lively interplay among soloists and orchestra. The program also includes Sorrell’s arrangement of Vivaldi’s Trio Sonata in D minor, “La Folia,” a set of variations built on one of the Baroque era’s most enduring musical patterns.
After intermission, the concert turns to Mozart with the overture to The Marriage of Figaro and Symphony No. 40 in G minor, one of the composer’s most urgent and expressive symphonies. Sorrell, a Grammy Award-winning conductor and founder of Apollo’s Fire, is recognized for her work in Baroque and Classical repertoire, including recordings of Bach’s complete Brandenburg Concertos.
