Discover the cultural legacy and complex history of one of the Caribbean’s most iconic spirits in an evening that blends storytelling, scholarship and spirited conversation.
Beyond the Barrel: Rum’s Influence on Caribbean History and Tradition takes place Saturday, July 26 at Green Space Miami. This panel discussion explores how rum has shaped and been shaped by the Caribbean, from its role in economic development to its presence in rituals, music and cultural expression across the region.
Moderated by rum historian Kerby J. Altidor, the conversation brings together voices from across the industry: master distiller Stephan Kalil Saoud of Clairin Sonson, Anays Diaz of Spiribam, FIU professor emeritus Dr. Anthony Peter Maingot and rum enthusiast Jamé Willis of Ready Set Rum!. Together, they’ll examine how rum production supports local economies, sustains traditions and fosters community identity across generations.
