Black Uhuru
Oct 11, 2025
Starting: 8:00 PM
Roots reggae pioneers Black Uhuru return to the stage at the Miami Beach Bandshell, continuing a legacy that spans more than five decades. Formed in Jamaica in 1972, the group became one of the genre’s most influential acts, earning the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1985 and producing classics like Sinsemilla, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and Sponji Reggae that helped define the late 1970s and 1980s reggae sound.
Today, the band is led by founding member Duckie Simpson alongside co-lead Andrew Bees, a lineup in place since 1997. Their performances blend timeless hits with the enduring message of liberation reflected in their name, which means “Black Freedom” in Swahili.
Black Uhuru, presented by Rhythm Foundation and Reggae Runnins, takes place Saturday, October 11 at the Miami Beach Bandshell.
