Starting: 7:30 PM
Jazz standards, close vocal harmonies and a live combo bring Seraphic Fire into the world of the Great American Songbook. Blue Notes takes place Friday, November 20, at First United Methodist Church in Coral Gables. Conducted by James K. Bass, the program features 13 voices with piano, guitar, bass and drums.
The concert draws on songs associated with Nat King Cole, Etta James, Cole Porter and other defining figures of American popular song. Selections include “At Last,” “When I Fall in Love,” “Straighten Up and Fly Right” and additional standards shaped by swing, warmth and the intimate sound of early jazz clubs.
Founded in South Florida in 2002, Seraphic Fire is a Grammy-nominated professional vocal ensemble with a national touring and recording history. The ensemble has released 16 full-length albums, including Grammy-nominated recordings of A Seraphic Fire Christmas and Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem, and continues to support vocal music education through youth, collegiate and professional training initiatives.
