CAP@SRT: Them & Us
This event has passed.
Exploring themes of identity, control, and societal pressure, Them & Us is a thought-provoking dance premiere coming to the Sandrell Rivers Theater on Friday, July 12 as part of Fantasy Theatre Factory's CAP@SRT program. Created by international dancer and choreographer Randolph Ward, this production utilizes a multi-ethnic cast and a blend of song, dance and spoken word to challenge audiences to consider the influence of societal conditioning versus free will.
The program features three distinct pieces:
- The Big Dig: A solo performance by Brazilian artist Natanael Leal that explores the internal struggles and anxieties associated with fear within a close relationship.
- Code Switch: A celebratory exploration of dance as a historic tool for self-expression and cultural identity for Black Americans. This high-energy piece incorporates hip-hop, African, vogue, samba, capoeira and HBCU band movement styles.
- Dystopia: A world premiere performance depicting a chilling future where individuality is eradicated. Through movement, music and spoken word, five characters grapple with the loss of their past and the constraints of their new reality.
Them & Us is designed for a mature audience (16+) and contains some adult content. The performance runs for 2 hours and concludes with a Q&A session with the choreographer and cast.
